Hi What an excellent collection I use a 638, 862 and 822a on a regular basis could you tell me was the 638 sold as a domestic or a commercial model. Do you have any 638s in your collection
Hi Paul I also use a Hoover 638 the brush strips are the same as 612 and early 912 but must be the ones set in metal the later 912 ones were plastic the metal ones are not manufactured any more but do sometimes turn up on ebay

I always learn something new every time I look at your website!! Any idea where I can get some brush strips for my 638 which is still in weekly use. Looked on the Internet and one company has some for sale at 17.00 and another company advertises brush strips to fit 612, 638 and 912 but I don't think the strips for a 612 and 918 will fit a 638 will they?

My husband has what we believe to be a Victorian 'Hoover' which has the original dust collection bag, including original dust. It uses a manually operated pump action which must have proved very hard work. I was wondering if you had any idea of what the value might possibly be .
I found you rather by accident; I have a model 541 which I've been debating offering for sale or perhaps to a museum of design somewhere. And in that search I came across your incredible, informational site! Thank you for sharing your Hoover fascination with the world. My 541 sits in my apartment as an example of incredible, beautiful industrial design. It was given me by a friend - it was her mother's. Not all of my friends "get" that it is art in my home.
Loved looking though your website. Was totally fascinated by vacuum cleaners when I was a kid. In the 70s I couldn't wait for the latest Littlewoods or Marshall Ward catalogue to arrive...first thing I'd do was look at all the vacuum cleaners (I was about 5!) By 6 yrs old I was making my own upright cleaners out of lego (really!) obviously no actual vacuum, lol, but I had the lego electric motor so I built something resembling a brush-head that would sweep up the smaller lego pieces! I coulda been the next James Dyson, lol.
Eventually my interest in electrical things went on to tape recorders & hi-fi gear, and the poor old vacuums were all forgotten...but I still remember the 1970s Littlewoods catalogues! There was the own-brand "Spinney" at the bottom-end of the market, then probably came Goblin, and Rotel...and then Electrolux & Hoover. Electrolux seemed years ahead of Hoover to me, but I was kinda biased...we always had Electrolux vacs at home. My mum's friend had a Hoover Junior and I remember being amazed how the attachments fitted on to the front of the machine...seemed kinda primitive compared with my mum's Electrolux 502, lol.
Anyway enough rambling from me :-)
