Great collection !... I collect mainly vintage record players, radiograms and 78 records, but like vintage domestic electrics, and I have some vintage Electrolux vacs too - the 1922 'elephant grip', the 12, the 25, all in their cases with all papers and tools. Your site is spendid, well laid out and easy to navigate, and the demo vids are a bonus.... Steve.

I have found a bottle with Hoover written vertically. There is a black Bakerlite screw top and a round funnel which looks like it could take a fitting. There is an adjustment screw on the lid and a metal tube going down into the bottle. I thought maybe it is a deoderiser? Any ideas anyone. Cheers Chez

hey guys do you have a vintage hoover with an orginal bag but the bag has seen better days dont despare! i have found the answer.
I have a very nice hoover 800 that has pride of plave in my main living room with other art deco stuff eg candle stick telephone etc., but the bag is very nibbled i have repaired the bag but being nearly 80 years old its bleached and delicate, so what i have done is i have purchased a a square meter of jet black cotton drill ! which today has almost the same texture as the orginal , buy 100% cotton though or it will have a nasty shine to it.The cotton drill of today is a little bit on the thin side so what i did was is to employ a seamstress to copy my orginal bag , by making two bags putting one inside the other ! thus giving the same thick quality needed ,This also helps preventing the outer bag fom getting dirty. OK so after this what i did was simply take the orginal bag to a T shirt printers to scan the orginal logos .These were then irioned onto the new bag . At first glance you would be hard pressed to tell and the effect really does give that hoover a fresh look espcially if you have highly polished your old model as i have. Also ofcourse the orginal hoover bag is kept and preserved flat in the bottom of a draw.I feel this was the right thing to do as the bag was letting down the general appearance of the hoover but at the same time having the new bag ensures preservation of the orginal bag for future genrations as we are only custodians of these things . The orginal bag is hoovered clean stored flat and in acid free tissue.I hope to place a photo at some point of my new hoover bag so you can see how good it really looks which also means you can use your hoover without the worry of putting stress on the orginal bag ;-) Oh can any one help wear can i get some spares for my hoover 800 for future problems eg a roller fan belts and a light bulbany help would be appreciated thankyou

I found your site by chance and was fascinated by the range of cleaners. I have a Hoover Vacuum cleaner called the "Hoover Portable" which I inherited from my uncle. It is a most unusual design - essentially a 3 wheeled box which you pull around the floor after you. I have not been able to find anything else like it on the internet. Can I send you some photos of it for you to comment on?

Hi
I am not sure if you can hep me. I am researching my family and have found that my grand dad was selling for hoover in 1935 in Bristol. He ended receiving a god watch for his long service. I am just trying to find out a little more about him and his work and wondered if you had any ideas of places I could look at to research hoover staff and history.
Regards
Emma

Hello i have just came onto this website by accident really , omg im hooked already i have to have one! infact i wont rest untill i hav one .Its a shame that they dont make things to last anymore , i very mucuh doubt a modern appliance will last like these gorgous machines have ,and yet can still be of use if one chose to use it but what a fab peace of art on wheals .Now that i have seen this website im going to study the subject , must say i rather like the 800 and also the 160 both very much what i would like to own
I dont know how much one of these would cost but i want the 800 if i can find one

Great site! I've had a Dial-a-Matic (aka Convertible) model 1178 with power drive for the past 27 years. My grandmother bought it new around 1972 and I inherited it. It's just a great unit and is still going strong. It's amazing how the styling stands up even today.

At this point, I no longer use it and rather than donate it to the church I thought an enthusiast might like it. It's in good shape, runs fine, and has all the original attachments. I'm in downtown Manhattan -- if anyone wants to pick it up early this week please see my Craigslist add (http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/hsh/2639669152.html). Cheers!

Hi there, I found a 625A Hoover in my Grandad's garage. Does anyone know if its worth anything. I'd rather someone who has an interest in these things restore it rather than it being skipped.

Found your site whilst looking for information on a Model 375 that has come into my possession that I would like to restore. Your site is wonderful for all the information and photos of so many models and when combined with all the videos you have done on You Tube, makes it a restorers paradise for reference material. My 375 is in working order but is missing the dust bag slide and spring to attach it to the handle so I'm on the look out for those items.

My great grandfather was going to use hoovers designs... but hoover was too stingy..

If the designs were Hoovers, it's more likely to be a case of patents and registered designs... you can't just copy someone elses' work!

Hope to hear from you

Hi there, thanks for your message, I'm really glad you like the site! I'm based in Surrey, so doing an exhibition in Oxfordshire might be rather tricky to accomplish! However, I'd be happy to discuss ideas if a suitable venue expressed an interest in hosting such a showcase. I really enjoyed putting together last year's public exhibition at The Lightbox gallery and museum!

Hi Matt, wonderful to hear from you!

Delighted you liked the site! I did meet a number of Hoover family members in North Canton in 2008, when the company celebrated it's Centenary, including Bud, Barbara and Larry Hoover - perhaps I met you there as well?

Great site mr.. Very well written and presented (sounds headmastery lol) left me wanting more..and I look forward to watching it develop.
Could you look into adding a sales and wanted section.
I have spent my life building collections and then giving them away (space) all my life.. am now very slowly building my collection again.
I have been looking for years for a 1970's Rotel (Zelmer) cylinder, my mother had one when I was a small boy..
Also for a handle for my Electrolux Z65

Where abouts in the country are you?

Hi there, Peter,

I'm pleased to hear the site meets with your approval! :)

Thanks for the suggestion about a sales/wanted section - I'll give it some thought.

I'm currently based in Surrey.
